This beautiful Grass snake was spotted slithering on the beach in West Mersea earlier this week by a dog walker! Although suffering from heavy disturbance, the stretch of foreshore on West Mersea in front of the beach huts by Victoria Esplanade car park has an extremely good beach flora. This includes Ray's Knotgrass, Sea Sandwort and Sea Holly to name but a few. It is a rare habitat in Essex and is designated as a Local Wildlife Site for this reason. | Essex Wildlife Trust
