At 11:14 p.m., officers responded to the 300 block of New Circle Drive in Naytahwaush for a 13-year-old boy who was hit by a firework.

The Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Department says a 13-year old boy was killed when a firework he was holding went off, shooting through the bottom of the tube it was in and hitting him in the chest.

Witnesses identified the child as Michael Turner of Naytahwaush, a small town about 50 miles north of Detroit Lakes.
