Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron has announced he is leaving the band after nearly 30 years with the rock group.Newsweek reached out to Pearl Jam's representative for comment outside regular working hours.

Cameron first joined in 1998 as a temporary replacement for Jack Irons, playing on a long tour before making his studio debut with the band on 2000's "Binaural."

After nearly three decades drumming for the rock supergroup, Matt Cameron is leaving Pearl Jam. Cameron, 62, announced the decision with a post to Instagram July 7, thanking his fellow bandmates and fans for "the opportunity of a lifetime" and teasing what comes next.
