Central provinces, including the capital Bangkok, have been warned of possible flooding as the Irrigation Department plans to release water from the Chao Phraya Dam to keep it under capacity.

Chiang Mai, a popular tourist destination in Thailand, experienced its worst flooding in decades over the weekend, leading to widespread damage and evacuations. Two rescued elephants drowned, and many hotels had to move their guests to safer areas.

The Chiang Mai city government said the water level of the Ping River, which runs along the eastern edge of the city, was at critically high levels and was rising since Friday. However, the provincial irrigation office on Saturday forecast that the water level was likely to remain stable and recede to normal in about five days.
