Barbie just unveiled its first-ever Diwali doll in collaboration with Indian fashion designer Anita Dongre. It's the first time that the auspicious occasion has been commemorated by Barbie and Mattel, in a bid to continue promoting more and more celebrations of different heritage.

The new Barbie doll is all set to enhance the grand Diwali celebrations across the world, especially in India.

The eponymous Indian fashion designer and couturier is the first designer to ever collaborate with Mattel on a Barbie doll for the Festival of Lights.

The ensemble, embellished with dahlias, jasmine, and lotus designs, symbols of power and beauty, features Dongre's characteristic nature-inspired motifs.

Toy maker Mattel has launched a new Barbie doll, designed by Anita Dongre, a first such collaboration with an Indian designer.

Dongre joined the call on an autumn afternoon, days before the global launch. “I watched the Barbie movie,” she laughed, “It was so heartwarming – I thought it was a lovely film." The first conversation about the collaboration started almost eighteen months ago.

In a global collaboration, Barbie has teamed up with renowned Indian designer Anita Dongre to launch the first-ever Barbie Signature Diwali Doll.

The new Barbie Signature Diwali edition comes with a moonlight bloom lehenga designed by Dongre, which includes a choli top, a floral Koti vest, and a lehenga skirt that has intricately been done in dahlia, jasmine, and Indian lotus flowers. Dahlia generally is associated with strength and Jasmine speaks of beauty.

The Diwali doll, created in collaboration with fashion designer Anita Dongre, features traditional elements and will cost $40.
