Severe storms arrived as forecast on the evening of March 10, whipping up high winds, enormous hailstones and tornadoes.

While some areas of the country have left winter behind and crossed into record-high temperatures, fast-moving weather systems are bringing more cold weather from the Midwest to the Northeast.

Severe storms brought damaging tornadoes to parts of the central US Thursday and Friday, shredding buildings into piles of debris and killing at least eight people.
