Kansas City is bracing for a major winter storm with up to 8 inches of snow expected.

The Kansas City area is under a winter storm watch starting Friday at midnight, with between 5 to 7 inches of snow possible. Wind chills as low as 20 below zero are also expected, according to the National Weather Service.

Arctic air will begin to pour southward into Kansas and Missouri Thursday night into Friday morning.

At least 40 incoming and outgoing flights have been canceled at the Kansas City International Airport (KCI) in anticipation of severe weather over the weekend.
