OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Most 17-year-olds in Nebraska are now able to register to vote with the start of the new year. Douglas County Election Commissioner Danielle Jensen encourages 17-year-olds who will turn 18 by Nov. 3 to register to vote for this year’s upcoming elections.
Any 17-year-old Nebraskan who is a U.S. citizen can register to vote as long as their birthday is on or before Nov. 3.
Nebraskans have participated as the state’s “second house” and voiced the “will of the voters” in 23 statewide ballot measures since 2004. More than 17.6 million votes were cast for or against those issues.
“Voters on the Early Voting Request List should expect to receive their cards by mid-February,” explained Danielle Jensen, Douglas County Election Commissioner. “This card assists our office in processing applications for by-mail ballots more efficiently, and we appreciate voters’ use of the card when possible.”
