And NASA is now holding online events both today (Sept. 23) and Wednesday (Sept. 24) to discuss the Artemis 2 mission, which will launch four astronauts on a journey around the moon in early 2026, if all goes to plan.
NASA announced a launch date for first crewed flight to the moon since 1972. The Artemis II mission will circle the moon but not land on the surface. The candidates have to do two years of training before they're eligible for flight assignments supporting future missions to low Earth orbit, the Moon, and Mars.
On Monday, the space agency announced the 10 people chosen for its 2025 astronaut candidate class, selected from over 8,000 applicants across the U.S. That’s an acceptance rate of about 0.125%, making the odds far more daunting than Harvard’s 4% admission rate.
