A wildfire spread across parts of Turkey, prompting evacuations in the Izmir region. The blaze erupted near Gaziemir on June 29, rapidly spreading due to high winds and threatening nearby residential and industrial areas.

Turkish authorities arrested ten suspects in relation to wildfires that broke out across the country over the past week, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on Friday.

Firefighters early Friday gained control over a major wildfire in the western Turkish province of Izmir but two others continued to ravage forests there, a minister said.
