The storm is expected to make landfall in western Florida Wednesday and is "extremely dangerous," the National Hurricane Center said.

Hurricane Milton is continuing to rapidly intensify before its expected landfall along Florida’s Gulf Coast sometime Wednesday. The National Hurricane Center on Monday issued a hurricane watch for a stretch of the coastline including Tampa Bay, which remained roughly in the middle of the forecast cone.

Officials in Tampa urged residents to move electric vehicles, including e-bikes, wheelchairs and golf carts, out of the way of storm surge and floodwaters. They warned that electric vehicles had caused three dozen fires in Hillsborough County, where Tampa is, during Hurricane Helene last month.
