The Ukrainian military says it has blown up a $400m Russian submarine in an unprecedented attack on the Russian navy’s most important remaining Black Sea base located in Novorossiysk. The strike marks the first time an underwater drone has neutralised a submarine, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky ’s advisor Alexander Kamyshin.
With an underwater drone, the Ukrainian Security Service destroyed an Improved Kilo-class (Varshavyanka) sub in the port of Novorossiisk. A fleet of six subs of the same class is planned built for the Northern Fleet.
The total combat losses of Russian troops from February 24, 2022, to December 16, 2025, in the war against Ukraine amount to approximately 1,190,620 people, including 1,150 people over the past day. — Ukrinform.
