The new storm, currently known as Tropical Depression Nine, is forecast to intensify and be declared Tropical Storm Imelda as it approaches Florida's eastern coast, where it is expected to arrive on Monday. Forecasters are warning of heavy rains, flash flooding and swelling seas from Florida up to the Carolinas.
While it's not forecast to make landfall in the U.S., Imelda is expected to bring heavy rain and dangerous surf from Florida to North Carolina.
While Tropical Storm Imelda and Hurricane Humberto are expected to remain off the coast of Florida, indirect impacts can be expected.
Imelda will continue to strengthen over the next few days, according to the NHC. A tropical storm warning is in effect for the extreme northwestern Bahamas, including Great Abaco, Grand Bahama Island and the surrounding keys. A hurricane warning is in effect for Bermuda.
Hurricane Humberto is expected to pass near Bermuda during Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing the risk of strong winds, heavy rainfall. The powerful hurricane will create massive seas over the western Atlantic.
As Tropical Storm Imelda passes to the east over the Bahamas, South Florida dealt with indirect impacts. Most woke up to mainly dry conditions Monday, but later spotty showers developed as the breeze built up.
