Humberto is now a hurricane and the National Hurricane Center warns risks of impacts to Southeastern coast from two looming storms.
Cat. 2 Humberto and Cat. 1 Imelda will remain in the Atlantic but close enough to kick up rough surf and rip currents for the East Coast.
The National Hurricane Center's 8 a.m. Monday update reported that Category 4 Hurricane Humberto is in the Atlantic Ocean, 400 miles south-southwest of Bermuda. Packing maximum sustained winds of 140 mph, the hurricane is tracking northwest at 14 mph.
With the system’s center likely remaining around 100-150 miles east of Florida’s East Coast, it should be far enough away for the peninsula to avoid significant rain and wind impacts.
Tropical Storm Imelda formed over the Bahamas Sunday afternoon and is expected to intensify into a hurricane, and while its forecast is less ominous for the Southeast coast, the storm will still be felt there.
