You won't hear about Wind Chill Watches or Warnings anymore. Instead, you'll hear of Extreme Cold Watches or Warnings.

(KNSI) — The National Weather Service says the language for cold weather alerts will be changing starting this winter.

The remnants of Hurricane Helene caused widespread power outages for Indiana. Hurricane Milton doesn't appear to be much of a threat for Hoosiers.

"Project 2025 wants to get rid of NOAA, wants to get rid of the National Weather Service — the people that tell you the weather and help you prepare for hurricanes," said Moskowitz, a former Florida emergency management director under Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.

The National Weather Service is changing its cold weather alerts and messaging this week, doing away with familiar terms like “wind chill watch” and “wind chill warning.” The changes, which come just as cooler temps begin to roll in,

The hurricane will bring strong winds, heavy rainfall, and potential flooding. Following Georgia's devastation from Hurricane Helene just two weeks ago, the National Weather Service did not say Georgia was fully in the clear from Milton.
