The new rules, first reported by the Gate Access newsletter, went into effect at certain airports but was expected to spread nationwide this week. Passengers departing from Sacramento International Airport have not had to take their shoes off since Monday morning, airport spokesperson Lindsay Myers said.

For the first time in nearly 20 years, passengers will be able to keep their shoes when going through U.S. airport security.

And to having to walk around the dirty airport floor covered in who-knows-what in just socks — or worse yet, barefoot. Instead, look forward to a new life in which shoes stay on and feet are protected.
